While we're aware that many churches do their own youth leader training and we are not wanting you to choose our training over your own - we do want to see leaders at every level equipped to do the role they are called to do.

WHAT IS SOUTHERN YOUTH LEADERS TRAINING?
Southern Youth Leaders Training (SYLT) 2012 is a dynamic weekend of training for Youth Leaders and Youth Pastors. SYLT has been running in Canterbury for the last 13 years, and this year we're going back to a camp based weekend at Living Springs Conference Centre.

WHO'S THIS EVENT FOR?
Whether you're paid, unpaid, a leader of leaders, a volunteer who just loves leading young people or all of the above, this weekend is for you. Including multiple different seminars that will equip you with basic skills, workshops that will challenge you and some local (and non local) speakers that will encourage you. Any denomination or faith based Youth Ministry.

WHEN & WHERE?
This year SYLT is the weekend on June 8th,9th & 10th.
It is held at Living Springs Conference Centre.

Registrations are $115 for the weekend.

Gary is the National Manager for BYM (Baptist Youth Ministries). He has been in youth ministry for 15+ years, most of them at Titirangi Baptist. He's passionate about developing leadership and faith in young people.

Mike is the director of CYS (Canterbury Youth Services) and has been working in youth ministry for 30 years. Mike set up CYS to train and resource leaders in youth work and youth ministry in and around the Canterbury region. He is very dedicated and passionate about reaching the 33,000 young people in Canterbury and equipping our leaders to reach this vision. Scottie is one of our local heroes. He has been walking with young people for over 10 years and is the Youth Pastor at Grace Vineyard Church (City Campus). Leading a team of 50 youth leaders is part of his weekly rhthym. He is passionate about ministry and seeing people encounter God's love.

WORKSHOPS

Depending on what’s your ‘cup of tea’, we have a variety of workshops to suit all appetites, here’s a little taste of what to expect:

  • The Essence of Youth Ministry - Biblical insights that teach us to minister Life to young people – not laws and rules.
  • Avoiding burn out!
  • Evangelism - fishing for people, how do we catch them?
  • Essentials for Growth - Elements to grow a healthy youth ministry, Kingdom vs. the world
  • Teaching young people to hear the voice of God - Practical guidelines to help them avoid heresies, heartaches and horrible mistakes
  • How do you engage with those who are too cool [18+]
  • Follow up - Discipling new believers and helping them discover what they really need to know and do in order to grow
